How to Order a Custom-Size Rug from India

A made-to-order rug can be sized to the centimetre, so it fits your room instead of the nearest standard size. Here is how the process works, from measuring to delivery.

1. Measure your space

Measure the floor area you want the rug to cover, not just the room. In a living room, size the rug so at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs sit on it. In a dining room, add roughly 60–75 cm (24–30 in) around the table on every side so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. Under a bed, the rug should extend well beyond both sides.

2. Choose the construction and material

Hand-knotted rugs are the most durable and detailed; hand-tufted rugs are plusher and faster to make; flatweaves are slim and practical. Wool is the most versatile fibre, silk adds sheen and fine detail, and jute or cotton suit relaxed, natural rooms.

3. Agree the design and colours

Choose a design from the collection, adapt one, or send your own reference. Colours can be matched to reference codes or samples, and a design drawing or colour reference is confirmed with you before weaving begins.

4. Production time

Hand-tufted and flatwoven rugs usually take a few weeks. Hand-knotted rugs take several months, depending on size and knot density. Your quote includes a production estimate.

5. Shipping worldwide
